Arsenal Host Wolverhampton Wanderers in Pivotal Premier League Clash

All eyes turn for a compelling Premier League contest as table-toppers the Gunners entertain bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Emirates Stadium.

Confirmed Sides

Arsenal have introduced three changes from the XI that suffered a narrow defeat at Villa Park in their previous outing. William Saliba, the Swedish striker and Gabriel Martinelli all start in the lineup. Martin Ødegaard and Mikel Merino are named on the substitutes' bench, while the Italian defender is not involved. Saliba returns after missing a run of games through injury.

The visitors also have made three changes to their starting XI after being soundly beaten 4-1 at home by Manchester United last time out. Matt Doherty, the Brazilian midfielder and Hwang Hee-chan are recalled. Ki-Jana Hoever and Jhon Arias are on the bench, while Bellegarde is omitted altogether.

Match Context

Good evening! And I mean, look at this …

The standings tells a clear picture. The hosts sit proudly at the pinnacle of the table, while Wolves occupy the bottom of the league.

… yet while this will be the 42nd time the top side have faced the team at the foot of the entire table – with 30 out of 41, with seven draws – who are responsible for two of the four all-time upsets? Why, Wolverhampton Wanderers, that’s who! So while Mikel Arteta will undoubtedly be expecting another three points, the Wolves boss must know that long shots sometimes find the target, and anything is possible. The start is at 8 o'clock in the evening GMT. It’s on!

(The other two bottom-beats-top victories in the Premier League era are Oldham’s 1-0 win over United in March 1993, and Tottenham Hotspur – yeah, this one sounds a bit weird - beating Liverpool in November 2008.)
