Democrats Denounce Trump After He Claims They Should Face Death Penalty

Democratic officials voiced fury after the ex-president alleged a group of Democratic representatives of being "betrayers" and declared they should be arrested and sentenced "through capital punishment" following their publication of a disputed video.

The Recording That Sparked the Controversy

The clip, released on earlier this week, features six Democratic congress members who formerly worked in military or security positions.

"Similar to us, you all took an vow to protect and defend this national charter," the officials stated in the short video. "Currently, the risks to our democratic foundation are not only from overseas, but from right here at home. Our statutes are unambiguous, you can reject unlawful commands, you can reject unlawful commands, you have to decline unlawful commands. No one has to follow orders that break the law or our national charter."

The Former President's Incensed Reply

The clip appeared to trigger a heated reaction from the previous commander-in-chief.

On later in the week, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In a separate publication, he wrote: "This is really bad, and Dangerous to our Country. Their words cannot be enabled to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also reposted a comment that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Officials Respond

Following Trump's statements on that day, Top Democrats issued a unified declaration denouncing the remarks.

"Political violence has no place in this nation," they declared. "Congress members who were featured in the video all served our United States with great loyalty and excellence. We unequivocally denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and risky threats of violence against congressional representatives, and urge House Republicans to forcefully do the same."

The Democratic leaders also stated that they had been in communication with protective services "to make certain the security of these officials and their families."

"Donald Trump must right away remove these unhinged social media posts and recant his violent language before he causes harm," the declaration continued.

Lawmakers' Defiant Response

The officials who were featured in the video also issued a declaration.

"We are ex-military personnel and national security professionals who love this nation and took an pledge to protect and support the national charter of the United States," they stated. "This commitment lasts a lifetime, and we plan to honor it. No warning, intimidation, or promotion of aggression will prevent us from that sacred responsibility."

"What's most telling is that the ex-president views it punishable by death for us to reiterate the law," they added. "Armed forces members should know that we have their protection as they carry out their vow to the national charter and responsibility to obey only proper directives. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our duty."

They stated: "The entire nation must join forces and denounce the president's demands for our murder and ideological conflict. This is a time for principled stance."

More Partisan Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also condemned Trump's statements and published on online networks: "It's important to understand: the President of the United States is calling for the execution of elected officials."

He added: "This constitutes an direct THREAT. Each congressional member, each house member, the entire nation – without partisan consideration – should condemn this without delay and without qualification."

The Conservative official justified Trump's assertion that the Democrats had engaged in "rebellion", labeling the video as "highly unsuitable", adding: "This constitutes very harmful, you have leading members of the government telling troops to defy commands, I think that's without precedent in the nation's past."

The Republican leader also allegedly told the press that in what he read of Trump's publications, Trump was "explaining the offense of sedition" but that "lawyers have to parse the language and establish all that."

Administration Statement

During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when asked by a journalist, "Does the president want to execute members of Congress?", the executive branch representative answered: "No."

"It's important to note about what the president is responding to," the spokesperson declared. "We see current representatives of the American legislature who conspired to arrange a recorded statement to personnel of the American armed forces, to serving soldiers urging them to defy the executive's proper directives."

She stated: "The integrity of our armed forces rests on the command structure, and if that structure is violated, it can lead to fatalities, it can cause confusion, and precisely what these congressional representatives ... are basically encouraging."
