Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Military Operations.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the United States has not commented.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have shot down missiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted sites associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems dealt with the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said wreckage landed in a neighborhood in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
