Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Leading Abusive Songs About Manager Wilder
The striker has joined Sheffield United only seven months after instigating disrespectful chants targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.
This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a contract with the Championship club in difficulty until January. His lengthy spell with Leeds concluded amicably in August.
Among the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting abusive songs about Chris Wilder during Leeds' success festivities this spring. Currently, the former England international is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to rescue the team he loves out of the drop zone.
Past Conflict Between the Striker & Wilder
The pair had a past before Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
All appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement up front while Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.
Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him calling me.
“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and accept it and that is an integral part of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Playing Struggles
Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season but the former Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
