Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to change things and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase such as this with performances this poor.”
Jones stated, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team back to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
