The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series created by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The previous season wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans watch the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
Martin Compston described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the network announced on this week that a new season is now being produced.
