The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family navigate their simple existence.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its current sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
