The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.
Overall, the intro looks amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of the same name, the second one put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
Personally, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes for me. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has already said that the series will have some surprises and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be one of them.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
