The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
